I saw something on the news this morning about protests going on in Phx. Is it over enforcing the borders? Maybe I'm mixing up my news stories.
The protests are because our governor signed a bill yesterday that makes it a state crime to be in Arizona illegally. It also says that law enforcement, if they have reason to believe someone is here illegally, have to investigate and possibly arrest that person. Also, it's now a crime to knowingly harbor someone who is illegal.
I guess the protesters are worried about racial profiling (officially). I am sure there are a fair amount of people who are protesting because now they or their family members are now breaking a criminal law instead of just a civil one.
Anyway, it's a very inflammatory issue and there have been protesters all week, but it's been a little worse since the bill got signed.
