Slip Sliding Away

Time keeps slipping right past me, and I can't believe it's been so long since I posted!  It's a good thing I'm not one of those blog authors depending on daily posts to either promote my work or to bring in ad revenue or I'd be in big trouble.

It's spring break around here, which has meant some fun activities along with all our normal stuff.  We went to the train park in Scottsdale with some friends from back in the day when I was growing up in California.  We went hiking with friends.  We went to the zoo.  A whole lot of things I wanted to get in before it gets too hot.  Spring break is like that for us.  Whereas most of the country is too cold to do anything outdoors during spring break (unless you're hitting the slopes), in our neck of the woods (or rather, desert) it's the tail end of our nice weather.  In a few weeks going to the zoo will be miserable.  I usually can only hike into April, and in April only if I do it early in the morning.  Another month and our kids will be hitting the pool instead.

Another big deal around here for spring break was getting M's new bed.  There was no point in keeping S in a crib any longer; she kept climbing out as quickly as we put her in it.  Also, our poor crib (having been through our five kids, plus others before we even got it) was on its last legs.  Terence had done the best he could at rigging it back together, but when the kids starting leaping from the top bunk into the crib . . . well, there's only so much a crib can handle and stay in one piece.

Anyway, M and B have been sleeping in an IKEA bunk bed, so we decided to get an IKEA loft bed so we could stick M's desk under it.  M would get the new bed, B would move into the top bunk, and S would move into the bottom one.  Our first problem was trying to find the bed at though.  The valley does have an IKEA but it's quite a drive from here, and we would need the pickup to bring it home, which meant either we would have to take two cars or we would have to leave the kids at home.  So we ended up making an IKEA trip for our anniversary date.  Romantic, right?

I checked online to make sure the bed was in stock first, but after sacrificing one of my twice-yearly dates to drive across the valley, IKEA did not have one in stock!  In fact, it looked like they don't even plan to carry the twin size loft bed anymore.  It was sooo irritating.  Luckily, we found a great gelato shop on the way home so things ended on a good note.  (I love good gelato!)

In the end, I ended up finding the bed we wanted online through Walmart.  I got it ordered online and it showed up three days later, to our complete surprise.

Terence and I got it put together and so far we have three happy girls.  Well, mostly.  Turns out S loves to climb up on both of the top bunks and chuck her sisters' things onto the ground. Three girls in one small room is a tight squeeze, and getting them to keep that room in at least decent shape is a serious battle.  The two year old only makes that sixty times harder.   Little sisters.  It's always tough to have to share a room.  But on the bright side, they'll be more prepared for sharing with a husband some day!  :)
