A Diversion
This afternoon I threw my to-do list to the wind and took J and B to the movies. M is in California visiting cousins so I thought it would fun for the others to get out and do something cool-- and movie theaters in Phoenix are well-known for blasting the a/c. My sister agreed to watch S and K, and we invited the kids' friend Justin to come with us to see Brave, the new Pixar movie.
Oh, the kids provided as much entertainment as the movie did!
A few highlights:
Oh, the kids provided as much entertainment as the movie did!
A few highlights:
- While watching the endless commercials at the beginning (several of which involved soda or sports drinks or such), B asked quite audibly, "So if I drink soda I'll be really good at things?"
- Just after the commercials ended and the lights darkened all the way for the previews to start, J whined, "When are we going to leave?" (At that point I feared it was going to be a very long movie if J was going to pester me to go home the whole time.) However, the Pixar short caught J's attention right off, and he got so into it that he kept standing up to see better. (I bet the people behind him loved that.)
- Halfway through the movie, Justin loudly grumbled, "I don't like bears or magic." Spoiler alert: The whole plot of the movie revolves around bears and magic.
- At a couple of humorous parts of the movie, J literally screamed with laughter. There is nothing more infectious than J's laugh. It is just so enthusiastic!
- Justin gave us the heads' up commentary in a regular speaking voice throughout the movie: "Now she's going to be a bear." "Now she's going to turn back into a person."
- B also had the normal speaking voice down pat (got to work with these kids and whispering) and she had questions she wanted answered frequently-- "Why is she doing that, Mommy?" or moral pronouncements to make-- "That is a really bad idea. She shouldn't get a spell from the witch." "She really shouldn't turn her mom into a bear."
- At some point, a whole group of the Scotsmen end up locked up on top of the castle and use their kilts to make a rope ladder to get to the ground. Then they parade back into the castle minus their kilts. B was shocked. "They are MISSING THEIR SHORTS!" she exclaimed. (The boys just giggled a bit crazily.)
Ah, the fun of kids who have lots to say and no practice being quiet during the movie. Our showing was nearly sold out, and there were more adults than kids (odd), but I hope we didn't disturb others too much. It was so worth it just for the things all three kids said!
Comments
Justin said he had a great time and liked the movie so much we should buy the DVD.
Thank you so much for including him!!!
